New Bluetooth Technology
Today excellent high tech and cheap Bluetooth systems can be found
online or in discount department stores everywhere. New Bluetooth
devices are no longer an expensive gadget; they are a part of our
everyday life and for some as important and necessary as a cell phone.
Like computers the technology is advancing at exponential speeds while
Bluetooth prices continue to fall.
A Bluetooth
for Father’s Day is a great gift idea!
The True “Bluetooth Helmet”
The best overall solution to audio sound and voice communications while
wearing a helmet is a true “Bluetooth
Helmet”. What I mean by a TRUE
Bluetooth Helmet is a helmet incorporating a Bluetooth device in its
manufacture. Controls, speakers and microphone are all integrated into
the design.
This approach allows the user to take advantage of multiple mobile
input devices including; Cell phones, GPS receivers, MP3 music players
or FM radio with Stereo speakers, 2-way radios and intercoms. Bluetooth
Helmets come in full, 3 quarter and half helmet styles.
Different Types of Bluetooth for Helmet Setups
If you choose to add a Bluetooth device to your helmet you can do so by
selecting a Bluetooth setup most compatible with your helmet. The
wireless Bluetooth technology allows users to connect several different
mobile devices. The more common devices used by helmet wearers are:
- Cell phones and smart phones
- GPS receivers
- MP3 music players or FM radio with Stereo
speakers.
- 2-way radios and intercoms.
Cell phones and smart phones.
This is the most often thought of use for Bluetooth technology as we
see it everyday. Now you can have the same cell phone convenience while
participating in your favorite helmet-wearing pastime.
GPS receivers.
Now that bluetooth technology is available for helmets, you can access handheld GPS units
and get turn-by-turn directions to your destination. For the best most
efficient use, your GPS should have an “in helmet voice
command” feature.
If your outdoor activities include off-road adventures or snowmobiling,
the appropriate GPS receiver can add fun and safety to your
outing.
MP3 music players or FM radio with Stereo
speakers.
If your tastes lean toward music, a set off high end stereo speakers
and a MP3 music player may be all that you want. Bluetooth for
communications do not normally use state-of-the-art stereo speakers; so
if really want great sound you may want to start with high-end stereo
speakers and add the communications devices to them.
2-way radios and intercoms.
Sharing your ride with others can add to the enjoyment of the moment.
Designed for use while riding motorcycles, snowmobiles or ATVs,
intercoms are great for rider-and-passenger or vehicle-to-vehicle
communication. For more distant communication use a 2-way radio setup.
Other Considerations
Other things to consider when purchasing a Bluetooth helmet or
Bluetooth headset are:
- Battery life
- Rechargeable unit or replaceable batteries
- Intercom range
- Quick-Release mechanism (headsets)
- Ease of use (location & type of
controls)
Define Bluetooth
Bluetooth is a proprietary open wireless technology standard for
exchanging data over short distances (using short wavelength radio
transmissions) from fixed and mobile devices, creating personal area
networks (PANs) with high levels of security. Created by telecoms
vendor Ericsson in 1994, it was originally conceived as a wireless
alternative to RS-232 data cables. It can connect several devices,
overcoming problems of synchronization.
Today Bluetooth is managed by
the Bluetooth Special Interest Group.
